Editorial

Dear Insider readers,

The Insider editorial team is working hard to supply Informix technical content and news.

Unfortunately, lately, there is no news about Informix.

As for technical content, we would love to receive your help. Share your success stories, problem solutions, tips and tricks with us. Anything you think would interest your fellow Informix users.  We will publish it and give you credit for it.

Thank you.

Default Changed for authentication.enable

Starting with Informix 15.0.1.13 and 14.10.FC13, the default behavior of authentication.enable now defaults to ‘true’ instead of ‘false’.

With authentication.enable set to true, the system strictly denies all operations attempted by unauthenticated callers. This security enforcement applies universally across the system and is not limited solely to sensitive operations.

Default changed in:

  • Informix 15.0.1.13 and subsequent releases
  • Informix 14.10.FC13 and subsequent releases

Which database am I connected to

This is a short but useful tip.

When your application connects to various databases one might be interested to know which database he is connected to. It is a simple undocumented select statement:

SELECT  dbinfo(‘dbname’) FROM systables WHERE tabid=99;

Title: Informix TimeSeries implementation using IBM Bob

Date/TimeAugust 20, 2026

Speaker: Jan Musil, IBM

Description: During the session, we will demonstrate how to use IBM Bob features to improve and accelerate the implementation of Informix TimeSeries. The demonstration will also focus on migrating from legacy relational time-series storage to native Informix TimeSeries support. Using IBM Bob, we will build a web-based analytical application on top of the existing TimeSeries database.

Title: Migration of the Informix 4GL “green screen“ application to web-based application

Date/TimeSeptember 17, 2026

Speaker: Jan Musil, IBM

Description: The goal of this session will be to turn an old Informix-4GL terminal application into a modern Java web application that can run in containers with Kubernetes. Using simple prompts, IBM Bob will convert it into a clear multi-layer architecture based on Spring Boot. This new design separates the user interface, application logic, and data access, while keeping the existing Informix database. As a result, the application is easier to maintain, extend, and scale.
