The outgoing board had its last meeting in Athens.
Starting March 12 we have a new Board. Well not completely new. Out of 8 board members 7 are continuing on the board. We have 2 new members David Link and Ognjen Orel. I wish them luck on the new Board and am sure the will contribute to running the IIUG. Unfortunately, Bruce Sims who did a great job on the Board was not reelected. Bruce is a dear friend and I will miss him on the Board. I’m sure Bruce will continue contributing to the Informix community and will continue his work on the Conference Planning Committee.

2) Highlights
2.1 The IIUG has a new president
Cindy Lichtenauer is our new IIUG Board president.
Cindy joined the Board in 2004. She is well known to the Informix community, IBM and HCL. Cindy is replacing Stuart who served asthe IIUG president for the last 15 years. Replacing Stuart is not an easy task but I’m sure there is no one more fit for the job than Cindy. I wish her all the luck in the world and am sure you share my wishes.
Stuart is no longer an elected Board member but he will stay on the Board as the IBM rep and knowing Stuart will continue to work for the success of Informix and the IIUG.

3) Informix Corner
3.1 More about Informix vNext
Informix is always alive, and getting even better at new version!
Recently we had some features announced for the Vnext (V14), which will be launched during this year.
I would like to transcribe some of them, and explain. Further details can be obtained on the original IIUG publication (reference is on the end of this article).
Personally I think some of these new features will be excellent for lowering product costs, and retaining customers who previously had no easy option to upgrade license, other than going to Enterprise Edition. Workgroup Edition is even more powerful for mid-size companies, and the new limits (24 cpu VPs and 32GB RAM) are much better compared to previous versions!
Another great point is that EE does not need an additional license pack for Storage Optimization. This strong even more SOF capabilities around customers, allowing to extend hardware life, raising performance generally gains around from 50% to 80% on storage economy on standard OLTP boxes.
Woops! I cannot forget mentioning: lowering memory consumption and backup windows improvements. There is no performance loss applying SOF on your engine. Fully transparent to applications, can be applied online, great feature!
Customers who should be strictly complaint to GDPR rules are now even safer with Informix: security keys can now be stored and managed outside the engine (Envelope Encryption)!
Informix HQ is a modern, secure and robust new tool for administration and monitoring of Informix engines, and is now part of the product.
Performance gains up to 10% faster than 12.10 on standard OLTP transactions!
Time Series: granularity is even more precise! Sub-seconds timestamps now allows even more data on your calendar storing: even better for IoT devices. Now it is possible to track packages inside a shipping depot using your own coordinate system!
SQL CTE standard is now available for developers to improve logic, ease maintenance and code comprehension.
There are lots more features: Informix as it is, a complete SGBD ready for mixed mode applications, ready for IoT, on this new version will show one more time to be the best database engine on market, for any use case!

3.2 New software repository
We are working on moving the IIUG software repository to sourceforge.
Eric Vercelletto is working on moving it all to its new home.
