IIUG And WAIUG Tech Day – Dec 11th 2025
Join the WAIUG (Washington Area Informix User Group) in partnership with the IIUG for a free half day technical webinar from some of the best talks at IBM TechXchange with some additional information added in.
- IDS 15.0 – Unlimited and Future Proof with John Lengyel – Covering all the new benefits of the 15.0 Informix release
- Text to SQL Agent powered by Informix and Watsonx with Xavier Escoté – This talk dives into how we built a natural language interface on top of IBM Informix using Watsox, allowing users to ask questions in plain text and get accurate SQL responses. We’ll walk through the architecture, training process, prompt engineering, and a demo of the working solution. Whether you’re in retail, finance, or any industry, this session will show how to bridge the gap between language and data through the power of IBM technologies.
- Informix Encryption Everywhere Everyway with Thomas Beebe – In this talk we will cover all layers of data encryption with Informix. Informix has a very robust set of security features that often go under or unused in organizations. As we all get more security focused it is important to make sure that your data is secure and your auditors are happy. Whether you are running a massive core system that has been keeping your company running for 20 years or you are using the most cutting edge IoT solutions you will want to make sure your data is safe and reliable. From the base object layer up through data in transit the different methods of Informix encryption will be shown. This will also go into practical examples and uses as well as when to use and when not to use them. This talk will be relevant to anyone running Informix version 7.x or later.
JC Lengyel (HCL), John, who goes by JC, joined Informix Software in 1991 as a front line support engineer with the goal of being employed. He was much too interesting to work in one field for the rest of his life. Then time got away from him and he feels bad about that but what can you do? He is now Informix Chief Architect within HCL. V15 is his baby, which is to say he’s the reason it took three years to develop. JC and his family live in New York City now and have never had so much fun.
Xavier Escoté (Deister), Since I was a kid, I’ve been passionate about building—robots, rockets, software. My father, founder of Deister Software, has been my greatest mentor and the inspiration behind my journey into technology. What began as a childhood curiosity has evolved into a mission I now share with my team: developing Airtool, a platform built to solve real enterprise challenges. Airtool is a next-generation Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) that empowers organizations to build enterprise software at scale—faster and with less complexity. It unifies everything teams need to develop, deploy, and manage modern applications. At IBM TechExchange, I’ll share how we’re scaling Airtool and the principles driving our approach—simplicity, performance, and long-term maintainability.
Tom Beebe (xDB Systems Inc). Tom has been an avid Informix user for over 20 years. As part of his involvement with the product he help found xDB Systems, Inc, one of the top Informix consulting firms out there. Along with his professional involvement he is also the president of both the Washington Area Informix User Group and the International Informix User Group (IIUG). When not helping clients he can also be found talking endlessly to people as to why to give it a try.
