Highlights

Informix 15.0.1 is available now; Find out what’s new!

Informix 15.0.1 includes performance and administration enhancements designed to help teams run high-volume workloads and achieve faster recovery times. NOTE: Some of these features required changes to low-level disk structures, so moving to Informix 15.0.1 involves an in-place conversion. This means it is exceptionally important to take a good backup before upgrade.

What’s new:

Parallel Checkpoint for improved uptime and recoverability

  • This new feature parallelizes the initial phase of a checkpoint, allowing multiple threads to concurrently process multiple buffer pools, which accelerates the flushing phase.

Kernel Async IO (KAIO) for advanced format devices with high capacity (>512k block size)

  • Apps submit I/O request to high-capacity storage for processing without waiting for the I/O operation to complete for optimal performance (large datasets)

Enhanced administration for new databases

  • New optional “Create database” parameters for: Isolation level, DB locale, Log mods

Archecker enhancements

  • Parallel table restore for faster fragmented table restores with archecker
  • Support for complex fragmentation schemes and expressions in , such as interval-based fragmentation

InformixHQ improvements making it easier to manage and monitor your Informix environment

  • Hot Tables and Indexes dashboard diagnostics
  • New block state alert, hide Group, Display updates
  • Swagger API
  • Repository Database Space Full Indication

What is the difference between Informix Mod Packs, Fix Packs and Cumulative Special Builds (CSBs)?

To summarize, Informix provides maintenance through three primary delivery vehicles, all of which undergo extensive quality assurance to ensure system reliability.

  • Mod Packs (v15 only): Released periodically to introduce significant new features and provide fixes for Known Issues (KIs).
  • Fix Packs: Periodic maintenance releases that focus exclusively on delivering fixes for KIs.
  • Cumulative Special Builds (CSBs): Targeted releases for urgent, core KIs that provide fixes faster than standard cycles while maintaining the reliability of a Fix Pack.
Vehicle Type  Purpose  Version Examples
Mod Pack  New features + fixes (v15+)  15.0.0, 15.0.1
Fix Pack  Periodic maintenance & bug fixes  15.0.1.1, 14.10.xC13, 12.10.xC16
Cumulative Special Build (CSB)  Urgent/Core bug fixes  15.0.0.1.4, 14.10.xC12W17, 12.10.xC16W3

A more comprehensive overview is now available in the Informix Support policy statement.

Views referenced in other views

It is common that a view selects from another view. The problem is that when we drop a view all the views that are selecting from it are dropped as well. We want to find those views so we can recreate them. The problem is that the column viewtext in sysviews is a CHAR(256), so the viewtext resides on many rows. Hence the table name we are searching can be split on two rows which makes it difficult to find. You can use a SPL function to do the search. It is then easy to add a view that returns the desired results.

create function view_in_view_fn(view_name nvarchar(128), match_view nvarchar(128))

       returning smallint;

define all_view_text lvarchar(30000);

define view_text nchar(256);

define s_no integer;

let all_view_text = null;

foreach

select seqno, viewtext  into  s_no, view_text

 from  systables a, sysviews b

 where b.tabid = a.tabid

   and a.tabname = view_name

 order by seqno

  if all_view_text is null then

     let all_view_text = view_text;

  else

     let all_view_text = trim(all_view_text)||view_text;

  end if

end foreach

if all_view_text matches “*”||trim(match_view)||”*” then

   return 1;

else

   return 0;

end if

end function;

create view view_in_view

(parent_view, child_view) as

select b.tabname, a.tabname

 from  systables a, systables b

 where a.tabtype = “V”

   and a.tabname != b.tabname

   and view_in_view_fn(a.tabname, b.tabname) = 1;

create view view_in_view

(parent_view, child_view) as

select b.tabname, a.tabname

from systables a, systables b

where a.tabtype = “V”

and a.tabname != b.tabname

and view_in_view_fn(a.tabname, b.tabname) = 1;
