REPLAY of May 2026 TechTalk How to do clever crap with tools from Oninit by Paul Watson

Paul Watson presented tools his company has developed for Informix databases, including LogWalker for processing logical logs, Ripper for Change Data Capture (CDC) with expanded UDT support, SQL Morph for bi-directional SQL translation between database dialects, and Dr. Watson, an AI-driven analysis tool. The tools were originally developed to work around IBM’s encryption changes that broke many existing utilities, and now provide capabilities beyond what IBM’s official tools can offer, particularly in handling encrypted data and processing UDTs. Paul explained that while the core CDC and translation libraries will be made publicly available, the decryption functionality will remain proprietary, and Dr. Watson’s basic features will be free with paid analytics options available. The session concluded with reminders about submitting presentations for IBM Tech Exchange, with IIUG board members providing email contacts for session submissions.
