Re: Reg. ABAP dictionary mismatch with the database

Posted By: Stan Buller
Date: Wednesday, 15 January 2003, at 12:00 p.m.

The procedure we use is as follows:

Create the new index in the development system using SE11. This
creates the index with a name conforming to the ABAP dictionary
standards and puts the index on a transport.

In the test and production systems, log on to the database server.
With the PDQ environment properly set, use dbaccess to create the index
using the create index statement that SE11 generated in the development
environment.

After the index has been created, move the transport into the target
system to get the dictionary and the database back in sync.

We have followed this procedure when creating new indexes on tables
which have been fragmented. We have the indexes on these tables
detached, and this procedure also provides you with the control you need
to place the index in a different dbspace than the table by adding "in
<dbspace>" to the create index statement.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Thanks very much for your response. I will create the indexes using
SE11.
I just need to clarify some more on this regard.

The reason i use dbaccess is to utilize PDQ resources during the
index
generation to reduce maintenance hrs. When i use dbaccess, I set
sometimes
PDQPRIORITY to 80 since "create index" is the only SQL going to run
during
that time and hence i can finish the index creation faster on bigger
tables
by allocating maximum resources.

1) How do i make the SE11 utilize PDQ resources ?
2) Also, i had memory related issues in the past if i use SAPDBA with
PDQ
in the onconfig and switching to different screens within SAPDBA.
I set the PDQ @ the session level. i get the memory related
errors as
soon as i execute SAPDBA. I could nt remember the SQL err code. I'm not

sure whether i set the PDQPRIORITY value really high while using
SAPDBA. Is there any recommended PDQPRIORITY value when using
SAPDBA with PDQ.
If someone encountered such situation, it will be great if you
guys
pass on your comments/feedback on this regard,

My other ONCONFIG parameters for the PDQ setup is as follows.

MAX_PDQPRIORITY 100
DS_MAX_QUERIES 20
DS_TOTAL_MEMORY 400000 (75% of SHMVIRTSIZE)
DS_MAX_SCANS 1048576
