SAP Mix

Veritas Netbackup, OnBar, and onsmsync -help requested

Posted By:
Date:

Calling all OnBar gurus.....advice needed.

I had a problem with Onbar yesterday on a freshly built system (built
from an alternate client restore). We have Veritas Netbackup and are
using onbar (IDS 7.31.FC6x2).

After the rebuild and database rename/application rename steps (yeah,
this is SAP), I took my first level 0 backup on the rebuilt system.

Netbackup successfully recorded 16 images for the dbspaces it backed up.
Informix online.log showed the rootdbs backup started, then aborted,
then started again, and completed.
Sysutils and ixbar have only 15 images. Sysutils and ixbar do not have
the ROOTDBS that Netbackup recorded as successful.

Netbackup has a successful rootdbs image:
Time: Wed Feb 19 10:12:43 2003 ID: sapdev12_1045671163 UBAK (2)

My problem was how to get this Netbackup record into ixbar so I could do
a cold restore. I could not go back to a previous day and restore/roll
logs as there was NO previous day. The next backup was at 6 PM, but my
customers wanted me to restore to the 10AM physical image and roll logs
to 3 PM. I needed that rootdbs record in ixbar in order to do the
physical cold restore.

1) I tried doing onsmsync to regenerate the ixbar file. My database was
UP. onsmsync created an ixbar file from sysutils. Sysutils did not
have the rootdbs record, so my new ixbar didn't have it.

2) I did not get to try this, but would I have been able to take the
database down and run onsmsync to regenerate the ixbar? Would onsmsync
have recreated ixbar from the Netbackup catalog?

3) Maybe I could have added the ixbar line manually from the Netbackup
record above. Netbackup told me the important thing - the image name.
The other fields, I could have mostly guessed at, but I am not sure what
they are all for. Maybe someone can help me understand.
Here is an example of the ixbar record I would have needed. The record
below is the second dbspace that backed up (logdbs), rootdbs would have
been recorded just before this.

sapdev12sp1shm logdbs CD 0 31731 0 0 1045671416
2003-02-19 10:16:50 1 0 0 31731

HERE is a GOOD record of rootdbs as it was also backed up at 6 PM that
night:

sapdev12sp1shm rootdbs R 0 31907 0 0 1045699322
2003-02-19 18:01:58 1 0 0 31907

From the above 2 lines, I would have tried to manually enter the missing
10:12 AM rootdbs record in ixbar....
In the good rootdbs ixbar record above, after the fields "rootdbs R",
I have "0 31907 0 0", what are those? (31907 must be a log number?)
Then comes the Netbackup image timestamp/number info: "1045699322
2003-02-19 18:01:58" which I could have created.
At the end of the line is :"1 0 0 31907", what are
those?
I assume 31907 would be a log number, the other fields of mostly 0's and
one 1, I would have created the same way. If I GUESSED at the log
number, might that have worked?

Any advice/insight would be appreciated.
thanks,
Norma Jean Sebastian
