Whats with the MIME ?

Hi Sapmix,

Thanks for reporting this MIME problem. Since I implemented the web-
based forums for the IIUG, this problem was referred to me.

I think it was caused by improper handling of email messages that are
sent in HTML format or sent in both plain text and HTML formats at the
same time. So I've modifed the script that processes incoming email
messages to pull the plain text version out of multi-version emails
(see http://www.globecom.net/ietf/rfc/rfc2046.html if this kind of
stuff interests you). Hopefully nobody will have their email
applications set to only send HTML, but if they have we'll get their
email with the junky looking HTML tags rather than lose their message.
Or, if you prefer, we could reject those messages by sending them back
to the sender asking them to "cut it out" and resend in plain text.

Anyway, I haven't implemented this fix yet. Since it's incredibly hard
to test something like this, I wanted to ask anyone on the Sapmix list
who has seen their email messages messed up with a bunch of MIME junk
recently to send a test message or two to the following email address:

testforum@iiug.org

This will let me see if the solution is working and maybe alert me to
other causes if I haven't guessed the cause correctly. Also, please let
me know if you have an opinion whether we should disallow HTML only
formatted email postings.
