In Response To: Netweaver (JAVA Applications) and IDS beyond WAS 6.20 (Ashley_J_Williams@acipackaging.com)

We just started with WAS and JAVA so I don't have much to add there yet.
Lack of Unicode is a HUGE problem for us and will probably be the undoing of
Informix here. The reading I get is that by 2006 it will be hard to stay
on SAP/Informix. I do wish SAP would approve 9.4; that 2GB chunk limit is
frustrating and I'm looking forward to the day I can install it here.

Subject: Netweaver (JAVA Applications) and IDS beyond WAS 6.20 [236]

Are you using Java applications in SAP?

I understand IDS 9.3 is okay for WAS 6.20, but IBM are not supporting WAS
6.30 and 6.40 - the future - for SAP for Java. Nor will Unicode be
supported!

I keep hearing things like "if you want to use Java based SAP modules,
then buy DB2" Classic R/3 is supported for many more years.

Java is okay now (we are WAS 6.20/IDS 9.30). The question is: are we to
be left behind in the SAP world or is this IBM FORCED MIGRATION to DB2 to
keep functionality with SAP?

WAS 6.20 is not designed to live forever, so we will need to upgrade
eventually.

Do SAPMIXers have better knowledge or experience?

regards
Ashley Williams
