SAP/INFORMIX Backup/Restore Strategy

Our SAP/Informix Production database is about 800Gb and runs on HP
RP8400 with 8 CPUs, 12 Gb memory. Our disk storage is STK.

HP/UX 11.11
SAP 4.6C with 4.6D kernel
INFORMIX 7.31.FD2X7

Our current backup/restore strategy is ONBAR with nightly full backup
using 5 parallel streams. We use Legato software on STK9730 jukeboxes
with DLT7000 tapes. The current backup runs for about 4+ hours. Our
Staging server, which is in a remote location, acts as our recovery
system. When we refresh/restore the production database to the staging
database, the restore time takes ~17 hours for a physical restore, plus
several hours more for logical restore.

Our management would like to change and improve our backup/recovery
methodology. We would like to apply logical logs to bring our remote
server up to speed. I would like to hear suggestions from other
SAP/Informix customers in how your shop manages
backup/recovery/disaster. =20
