Bridget,

Something else you might look at is the location of your query tempspace
directory. The default location is generally not where you want it to be.

Check your rbw.config file -- these are the rows pertaining to those
parameters. I've only changed the last entry to point to an area with
plenty of space.

# Query Temporary Space parameters
# Always specify QUERY_MEMORY_LIMIT before
# QUERY_TEMPSPACE_MAXSPILLSIZE in this configuration file
# Specify multiple DIRECTORYs by having multiple
# TUNE QUERY_TEMPSPACE_DIRECTORY entries
#TUNE QUERY_MEMORY_LIMIT 50M
#TUNE QUERY_TEMPSPACE_MAXSPILLSIZE 1G
TUNE QUERY_TEMPSPACE_DIRECTORY /rb5/temp_qspace

Hmmmm, "It takes about 30 minutes before it falls over", Is it a simply
select query?
Then it maybe because the memory problem, Why don't you try to put more
restriction in the where clause of
the same query, and watch it whether it can finish in 30 minutes, and
how is the memory performance.
