Hello!

You don't have to try again "in a few months". I've done it for you (same problem for same reason, different application). No Joy Cookie.

Like you I needed to upgrade our PHP and add PDO support (in my case so I could have better cursor management when interacting with IDS).

I compiled php 5.2.4 from scratch and had to use --with-pdo. I also had to use --with-pdo-mysql because the available pdo_mysql extension has an undefined variable problem if you try to use the PECL module.

This particular install is fedora core 6 on a dual-core intel server, but the issue is the same.

pecl install pdo_informix would NOT install because it didn't see the PDO already embedded (I hate perl but PEAR/PECL has a looong ways to go before being as solid as CPAN) and would not install. I had to tell it to install alldeps:

pecl install --alldeps pdo_informix

It compiled/installed without error. I added the extension=pdo_informix to php.ini.

Now when I run php I get the following:

>
> PHP Fatal error: PDO: driver informix requires PDO API version 20060409; this is PDO version 20060511 in Unknown on line 0
> PHP 5.2.4 (cli) (built: Jul 21 2008 17:59:08)
> Copyright (c) 1997-2007 The PHP Group
> Zend Engine v2.2.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2007 Zend Technologies

The issue is that when a newer version of PDO is installed (upgraded) we must also install/upgrade our PDO database extensions. The problem is that the PDO_INFORMIX extension has not been upgraded.

I contacted the maintainer directly beseaching him for help with MUCH APPRECIATION (bowing low to the IBM gods).

maintainer for PDO_INFORMIX: Kellen Bombardier <kfbombar@us.ibm.com>

I could try rebuilding PHP without PDO, installing an older PECL version, and then the PDO_INFORMIX and see if that works...

If anybody else can shed light or provide the right sacrifice to IBM please do.

TIA
David
