Final update for a while, since next week I'm going to have to restore the system I've been working on to a "standard" configuration.

Still not working. In the hopes that it will help someone else, here are various things I've tried:
Found online: "chatr +s enable (path to php)/php" Eliminates the "unable to find shared library" error. Replaces it with a different error:
PHP Fatal error: PDO: driver informix requires PDO API version 20060409; this is PDO version 20060511 in Unknown on line 0

So, I compiled my own version of php, using the latest stable 5.2.5 source. This is a PAIN (on HPUX, at least...) Make sure to set MAKE=(gmake location), and I used the HP gcc compiler because I already had it loaded. So, I had to set CC to the full gcc path.

Unfortunately, that still gives the same error (which shows up if you do "php -m". So, I tried running "pecl build package.xml" in the pdo_informix directory. After fixing an issue in Builder.php (bad syntax on a "find" command), it errors out further on...

So, last try this morning - edit "php_pdo_driver.h" in ext/pdo/php_pdo_driver.h, and manually change that version to "20060409". I wouldn't have done that if I could have found the version in the pdo informix files... After recompiling php again, I now have no errors when I run "php -m", and the list shows pdo_informix. Cool, right? Nope. After all that work, I still get the dreaded error "Connection failed" when I try and login from the OAT menu... Still error "Unspecified System Error = -1", which I can't find any useful information on.

At this point, I have to give up. Maybe in a few months, I will try again, but given the changes I had to make, it will be to a system I can destroy and rebuild.

Oh, well. Maybe I'll harass the right person in Overland Park... :)
