Re: OAT install on HPUX [50]

In Response To: Re: OAT install on HPUX [50] (Amit Dandekar)

Finally, progress!
(Still not functional, but I am getting closer)

When last we left our daring hero, he was trying desperately to install OAT without installing 20 other programs. Unfortunately, this was not to be…

I have a LONG list of what I tried, if it is of help to someone, but that all failed. There is no way I can find to force the HP C compiler (the purchased product, not just the free included C compiler) to recognize the Zend header files (zend_alloc.h was the first, and it went downhill from there.)

So, despite my best wishes, I had to install:
Updated HP Web Server Suite package (valid PHP version)
Autoconf
M4
Autoheader
Automake
Gcc
Zlib
Libgcc
Libiconf
Gettext (Which I theoretically already had, except it was an “old” version…)

At this point, “./configure” works with no major errors. "make" processes, and generates what seems to be an output of some kind. Unfortunately, I see a series of errors similar to:

*** Warning: linker path does not have real file for library -lifcli.
*** I have the capability to make that library automatically link in when
*** you link to this library. But I can only do this if you have a
*** shared version of the library, which you do not appear to have
*** because I did check the linker path looking for a file starting
*** with libifcli and none of the candidates passed a file format test
*** using a file magic. Last file checked: /osm/thishost/appl/informix.11/lib/cl
i/libifcli.sl

It repeats again for libifsql.sl, libifasf.sl, libifgen.sl, libifos.sl, libifgls.sl, libifglx.sl. Note that all files exist in those paths that it is looking for. Then I see:

*** Warning: libtool could not satisfy all declared inter-library
*** dependencies of module pdo_informix. Therefore, libtool will create
*** a static module, that should work as long as the dlopening
*** application is linked with the -dlopen flag.

And then it "finishes", writing pdo_informix.a and pdo_informix.la to the path:

/opt/hpws/apache/php/lib/php/extensions/pdo_informix/modules

Which is, as far as I can tell, the correct path it should be using. Unfortunately, "make test" now fails miserably... I suspect, because it is looking for ".so" files.

So. After several days of work, and installing 10 different software products, I still don't have a working OAT. I won't rant again, since I started this thread with a rant that I feel no urge to change...

However, I do see an end in sight. I suspect that I'm going to have to find a different linker package and install it also. And then, if I manage to get this part working, I'm still going to have to find "soap", since the OAT install page says that I don't have that either...

To quote Jerry Pournelle: "I do these silly things so you don't have to." Hopefully, at the end of this process, I will have a complete procedure to install this that I can test on another system, or I will have provided enough info to the IBM people so that they can simplify this immensely and keep other people from having this pain inflicted on them.
