I've been told that the primary purpose of the list version is for finding
archival material. That's fine - but if I'm going to an archive, I
probably don't want to be told about what's new since my last visit a month
or more ago. However, that is bearable - Mark all messages read will fix
that.
While the mailing list continues as a mailing list, that's what I'll be
using as my primary access mechanism - unless the forum is upgraded to work
more like a news group.

Clicking Mark all messages read is OK, though I seldom want to do that
until I've read about half of them to decide that each topic has been
answered adequately (or is outside my scope).
Exiting the browser because I've lost track of where in the list of 38
messages I've got to is not OK - as a user interface, that stinks.
