In Response To: Re: IIF-10.00.UC5I1-1 installation problems (Alan Polinsky)

Hi,

hmm. There seems to be a family of AMD K6 processors
(which to my understanding all have these special 3D
capabilities, though these are not helpful with IDS anyway):

AMD K6, AMD K6-2, AMD K6-III.

See e.g. http://www.amd.com/us-en/0,,3715_13530_1260_1217%5E1102,00.html

My guess is, that the AMD K6-III is compatible with Intels Pentium III
processors, but the other two are not. But that is just a guess, as the
AMD documentation doesn't seem to contain compatibility info
regarding rival Intel processors ... at least I didn't find it.

With that you can try to install the i686 package on the AMD machine, but
I can't tell you whether that will work. :-(

Installing IDS 10.x on a Pentium III will work very well (with the correct
Linux). Going this way may save you a lot of time and trouble (trouble
with fixing the AMD machine after an attempted upgrade gone wrong).

Regards,
Martin
