In Response To: Re: two-way triggers (ART KAGEL, BLOOMBERG/ 731 LEXIN)

Ed,

Let's try that again ...

I don't see anything wrong with the table ... and it looks like it has
select access to public .. I can't actually log on with that user to see
exactly what that guy is doing ...

However, is that the id you normally get on that box with? I thought that
was the id that was being used on spartan22 for the PS interfaces ...

Re: two-way triggers [1018]

Your overview sounds right on to me.

On your questions:
1. Sounds like you're reading the right stuff.

2. No, triggered actions always fire additional appropriate triggers.

Let me see if I understand. First, let's assume that my column mappings
are so
complex that they require use of a 'trigger based mapping to a set of
local
'replication tables' that could then be replicated using ER to the tables
on
the other server'. Is this how it would look? - I provided two common
scenarios that could be happening simultaneously:

Scenario 1, Update to database1 originating from 4GL application:
0.) Set up replication between database2_replicant_table and
database2.table2

1.) Update database1.table1.name Set name='Smith'

2.) Trigger fired from #1:
Update database1.database2_replicant_table Set name = 'Smith'

3.) Enterprise Replication takes care of the update to
database2.table2.name
and the process stops here.
------------
Scenario 2, Update to database2 originating from .net application:
0.) Set up replication between database1_replicant_table and
database1.table1
1.) Update database2.table2.name Set name='Jones'

2.) Trigger fired from #1:
Update database2.database1_replicant_table Set name = 'Smith'

3.) Enterprise Replication takes care of the update to
database1.table1.name
and the process stops here.

Two more questions:
1. Do you have any recommended reading that would assist in my efforts?
2. According to my reading, when a replicate causes an insert, update, or
delete on a target table, triggers associated with the target table are
not
executed. Is there any way to force the same behavior with a trigger that
'causes an insert, update, or delete'?

Much thanks!
