Interested in Informix/SAN experiences

Given today's advances in disk technology, the old adage of "more spindles"
for Informix environments doesn't seem feasible any more. My company is
currently assessing SAN solutions for our entire enterprise. We are
researching IBM, EMC and Hitachi. We've limited our search to these 3
vendors due to the fact they are the only ones capable of integrating Open
Systems, Windows and Mainframe in a single solution.

I'm interested in hearing experiences and recommendations regarding SAN's
in relation to Informix. I'm especially interested in Art's comments in
this area. In the past, we've done most of our DASD implementations using
Art's "plaiding" technique for simplicity and ease of maintenance. It
hasn't failed us yet. I'm also interested in the old RAID5 vs RAID1+0
debate in relation to SAN's. Some SAN solutions do not have a choice
except for RAID5. For those that have successfully, implemented SAN's for
their Informix apps, have you experienced any differences in performance?

As some additional information if anyone thinks it relevant, we have Sun
and IBM servers primarily connected via SCSI. A few Sun servers are
connected via Fiber to Sun D100's and A3500's. Additional SCSI is
connected to an old EMC 3430, Sun RSM2000, Symbios Logic Metastor arrays
and various other internal disks and Sun disk packs. Are applications vary
from PeopleSoft to home grown data warehouses.
