Please note Vista Home anything is not a supported or tested platform. However 1. Vista Business, Ultimate and Enterprise are supported and tested, and 2. there is no reason IDS shouldn't work fine on Vista Home as long as the Administrator account is enabled, you make sure the firewall is not preventing access to the listening port, and make sure the SQLHOSTS entry matches what you are connecting to.
This last point is important for Vista because it has a dual IPV4 and IPV6 stack.
If I remember rightly the default SQLHOSTS entry for the demo instance in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Infomrix\SQLHOSTS\<NFORMIXSERVER> is set to *machine_name in 11.50.TC1. This can cause problems because the machine might resolve the IPV6 name and the client might resolve the IPV4 name.
I suggest you chance it to localhost if the client is on the same machine, or to machine_name is the client is remote, or just IP address, if the client also connects by IP address, and make sure you restart IDS.
In IDS 11.50.TC2 the leading * in the servername in SQLHOSTS won't be used.

I think I'll finally go to vmware, since I need to complete job somehow. Today
my admin and informix accounts suddenly disappeared, I guess it was a sign :)
And I really don't understand what's so difficult about creating proper tcp/ip
socket listener. If IBM guys unable to accomplish this task with
billion-dollars budget, I can do it 100 times cheaper :) And it will work on
any decent Windows version, from now and till 2050.
IBM sucks.
