<?MIEXEC> to Perl _should_ work. The Perl script could either run (UNIX)
"sendmail" (with command-line args for sender, recipient and subject, and
body in stdin), or possibly open a socket to your preferred SMTP server
and exchange the required messages ("HELO" or "EHLO", etc.).

I haven't used <?MIEXEC>. When we had to accomplish this ~4 years ago, we
used a more convoluted route, vaguely like this:

- The app page called an SPL routine (function or procedure, I forget)
from an <?MISQL> tag. (I guess now with Web Blade 4.x, you would call it
with an <?MIFUNC> tag to avoid the overhead of parsing SQL.)

- The SPL routine did a SYSTEM call; it assembled the command line string
from the args passed to it.

- The command line was for a very small "C" program which in turn did a
UNIX system() call.

- The system() call ran UNIX sendmail (hence my first option for Perl
above).

- I forget whether sendmail was configured on the local host to know where
to send mail to, or whether we used command-line flags to direct it to an
SMTP server elsewhere.

In summary, a bunch of chewing gum and paper clips. <?MIEXEC> to Perl
sounds more elegant.

Hi Everyone,

I am presently working with the Informix 'App Page Builder' and the web =
datablade.
I need to be able to code the automatic firing off of emails from the =
server, using parameters from the database.
I suspect I need to use the <MIEXEC> tags with a PERL program.
I would appreciate any help or suggestions from anyone who has had any =
experience with this.
