What do you mean by 'program record number'?

I have code that manages it's field movement and record position, but I tend to
treat array input as a batch of rows to be inserted or updated all together as
a single set of operations at the end after a final commit from the user using
optimistic locking protocols so that the application is not holding locks for
more than a few fractions of a second. I'm not sure what you are looking to do.

As far as advancing to the next field, all you have to do is to use the INFIELD
() function to determine what field you are in then you know which field to
NEXT FIELD to. So:

ON KEY (CONTROL-U)

CASE

WHEN INFIELD( first_field )

NEXT FIELD second_field

WHEN INFIELD( second_field )

NEXT FIELD third_field

...

END CASE

Hi,

Does anyone have a 4gl function or know of a way
to programmatically advance the cursor to the
next field in a 4gl form which is in input mode.

I know about the NEXT FIELD clause but it will
not do what I need.

I need a routine that can be called or some method
to cause the cursor to go to another field
AND to update the program record member for
the field that the cursor was in with the changes
that might have been entered into the
field before the routine was called.

For example, someone is typing in a field and presses
a hotkey(s), say Ctrl-u, and program control transfers
to an ON KEY statement block. In that block
some processing is done but the cursor is NOT going to
go back to the field that it came from. Instead,
I need it to move the cursor to another form field AND
to update the program record member for the field with
whatever was entered into it.

It seems that NEXT FIELD will not do the update of the
program record member.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim
