Re: URGENT- NEED ISQL 7.X for MS-DOS

There hasn't been a supported version of ISQL or 4Gl for MS-DOS since the 4.1
release in about 1992. I would suggest that you can redevelop for your client
using ISQL and 4GL on Linux. It will support his one console and you will be
giving him the option of attaching additional dumb or xterm terminals or
additional PCs connected to the same database.

Greetings/Saludos:

I wish you all a happy and prosperous new year!

I would like to introduce myself:

Francisco "Frank" Rotolo.

I live in San Juan, Puerto Rico where I dedicate myself to developing
applications in both English and Spanish languages, using Oracle.

I started using Informix 3.3 for a Xenix-based Altos/586 Computer in 1982 when
I was an Altos Computer Systems reseller in Tampa, Florida until 1991, when
Altos was merged with Acer Computer Systems.

I have a legacy customer who refuses to convert to Oracle.
He was running an application which I developed in 1991 with
Informix-SQL ver 2.10.06E (1989) for MS-DOS, Serial Num: LEX#R116020,
delivered from RDS' Lenexa, Kansas facility.

Two weeks ago he has a fire which destroyed his PC along with all his
backup disks and did not save any copies elsewhere, thus unable to
restore his system. I have copies of the source code for his system,
but do not have ISQL for MS-DOS.

I have been developing with Oracle for the last 15 years and have
not touched informix since.

My client insists on remaining with the original system, therefore
I am asking anyone (even IBM) if they can provide me with a legal copy
of ISQL 7.X and ESQL/C for DOS.

After so many years of being away from Informix products, I am surprised
to see that the latest versions of Informix products are still running in a
character-based "green screen" mode. Now that IBM owns Informix, I would
expect that they would upgrade these products to be competitive with others
such as
Oracle. Around Nov-2006 I contacted Mr. Des McNamee (IBM/One-Point) and
requested a trial copy of: IDS, perform and ace, or 4GL for Windows XP so that
I
could upgrade this legacy client who is an "informix die-hard end-user",
but there did not seem to be any follow-up on behalf of IBM nor One-Point.
I get a feeeling that "IBM is not interested in acquiring new informix
customers, rather just maintaining existing informix users, and these will
slowly migrate to another RDBMS.

Honestly, what is the real consesus of where IBM-Informix is headed ?
