Read/Write End Of Medium enabled - error 238

Hello,

First, let me apoligize if I am posting this message in the wrong group. As I will explain below, I am not very familiar with all things Informix. If so, I would appreciate someone letting me know where I should try to find help.

I am a network administrator and I am trying to help out a user with my company with some problem he has when he is writing backups with his Informix software. (And since it is writing to a network drive, he thinks it is network related - but I disagree.)

The Informix runs on HP UX. I have access to the machine which runs the Informix software, but I do not have more information on it. I'd be happy to supply some if someone tells me how.

The problem we are facing; every night arround midnight we (or rather, my colleague) are writing a backup of the database to a drive which is mounted using NFS and is located on a linux box somewhere on the network.
Sometimes that backup fails, when it does, we see the following:

I have looked arround for more information on this error and I have found:

Error Codes from -200 Through -899

Error codes from -200 to -899 indicate problems in the execution of an SQL statement. These codes are returned to the SQLCA. An ISAM error code accompanies many of these messages.


-238 Cannot commit work.
The database server cannot execute a COMMIT WORK statement. Check the accompanying ISAM error code for more information. A problem probably exists in accessing the transaction log.

What I have thus far failed to find however was a solution or a hint towards one. Therefore I turned to this user group for ideas.
