IBM’s purchase of Informix closed on Sunday, July 1, and IIUG is proud of assisting with the process that integrated Informix Software into IBM’s Data Management division. IIUG worked closely with IBM and Informix, ensuring that the users’ needs and questions were addressed. For example, IIUG advised IBM on the creation of the “Future Directions” white paper that explains how IBM will continue to support, sell and enhance Informix products for the foreseeable future. Visit www.IIUG.org for the latest information, including a letter to IIUG from Janet Perna, IBM Data Management’s top executive. Here is an excerpt from the letter that illustrates IBM’s commitment to IIUG:
“IBM values your investment in and support of the Informix products, but we do not take them for granted. The IBM Data Management team will work hard to continue the successful relationship that you have shared with Informix.”
Are you wondering what to call the old Informix Products now? Just add the word IBM to the old name. Example: Informix Red Brick Decision Server is now IBM Informix Red Brick Decision Server. Short and sweet, like this IIUG Alert!
We have created an Board of Directors 2001-2002 elections corner on the IIUG web site. In it youËll find details about the process, timeline, nominees, voting, etc.
The slate of candidates includes 17 nominees for 11 positions on the Board. Nominee biographies and election addresses are posted – when available – at http://www.iiug.org/about/elections/bio.html.
Elections will be held during the period of August 1st through September 15, 2001. All IIUG members as of July 20, 2001 will be eligible to vote at http://www.iiug.org/about/elections/vote.html.
What tutorials are available to help business users rapidly develop and deploy Informix Office Connect applications?
Office Connect 2.0 product provides Data/Database visualization and reporting capabilities using spreadsheet technology. Tutorials are available at http://www.informix.com/informix/products/tools/officeconnect/.
The IIUG server has been going through a transition in recent months to physically relocate the machine, and upgrade the OS, software, hardware and security. It is now physically located in the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington DC. The email discussion lists, web pages and news message feed will now be hosted on the new and improved server. Soon to follow will be a membersË only area of the web site that will provide member access to update your information and user profile, and easily subscribe to the email discussion lists. After this week, there will still be some setup and configuration hurdles to overcome, but hopefully it will be seamless to the user community. We hope you enjoy and appreciate these improvements and many others soon to come.
