Imperva's own research organization, the Application Defense Center (ADC), has identified the top 10 most dangerous threats affecting today's organizations, as well as provided background and general risk mitigation strategies. Included among the Top 10 list are the following three threats:
• Excessive Privilege Abuse: When users (or applications) are granted database access privileges that exceed the requirements of their job function, these privileges may be abused for malicious purpose.
• SQL Injection: When a perpetrator inserts (or injects) unauthorized database statements into a vulnerable SQL data channel.
• Denial of Service: When access to network applications or data is denied to intended users.

Back to Top SDS architecture and testing scenarios in the real world - Sun Guo Rong
- In China, Informix HDR has supported many 24*7 banking applications for years. Now, Informix SDS is challenged and demanded to provide near 100% high availability and scalability. In this session£¬ we will present a real world SDS architecture and 15 testing scenarios. These scenarios simulate possible man-made and/or hardware failure by unplugging network cable, unexpectedly killing server daemon process and connection managers, etc. Some scenarios are listed below.
1.1st SDS server shutdown normally, 2nd SDS server switch to Primary, 1st server recover..
2.1st server shutdown abnormally, 2nd SDS server switch to Primary, 1st server recover..
3.2nd SDS server shutdown abnormally, 2nd SDS server recover..
4...
With 1700 session simulations, we demonstrate how our SDS architecture behaves, response, and shifts primary role from one server to another within 45 seconds flawlessly to achieve near 100% high availability.
Back to Top SDS exploration, limitations, and demo - Sun Guo Rong
- During the severe SDS testing simulation, we have identified 2 SDS limitations which are read-delay and not-supported Select-for-Update features at 2nd SDS server. In this session, we demonstrate our research work in how we explore the SDS internal work, why it prefers the higher read/write ratio. We also demonstrate the limitations by real cases with different read isolations. Under different read isolation, we prove some limitation are irrelevant, some limitation is ignorable.
1.How SDS redo simple transaction and complex transaction with log at 2nd SDS server
2.Read-delay at 2nd SDS server and scenarios
3.Read-delay with long transaction
4.Select-for-Update and RETAINUPDATELOCKS
..
With our experimental findings, you will recognize that SDS is best simple database cluster technology available by comparing other expensive and complex technology. When you implement your SDS deployment, you know exactly how to take advantage of it strength and avoid its limitations.

searches, using group-by aggregate queries, implementing
distributed queries, and more, in a case-insensitive
database environment.

Back to Top Tuning Data Warehouse for High Performance in Informix - Alex Cheng
- One of the big myths, if not the biggest one, about Informix is that it is only good for OLTP. The purpose of this session is to bust the myth and share with you the tuning techniques to achieve high performance in the business intelligence/data warehouse (BI/DW) environment using Informix. This session is a case study of tuning work that achieved a 12-fold performance improvement in the worst-performing BI query and substantial performance gains in overall BI/DW environment using Parallel Database Query (PDQ) and partitioned indexes.
The session will cover the details in the following areas: 1) how a set of configuration parameters are changed for PDQ and how PDQ is used for each user session; 2) how other configuration parameters are changed for the non-PDQ queries since not all queries in the BI/DW environment can or should use PDQ; 3) how to get peak performance from the tables joined in a star schema.

This tutorial will first walk you through the different tools, utilities, and features you can use to develop a DR strategy within Informix, including ontape, onbar, archecker, external, load/unload, mirroring, and HDR. You will then understand the pros and cons of various DR strategies. It will then be time for you to exercise Informix DR operations as a result of various failure situations - including performing DR due to instance, dbspace, and Primary server failures, recovering dropped tables, using mirrored disks to restore down dbspaces, and recovering using external backups. While conducting these experiments, you will also learn how to monitor the DR operations (data transfers, threads, servers, etc) for troubleshooting and tuning purposes. Discussions about the efficiency your DR strategy and/or plans will also be welcome throughout.
