The IIUG has a new Board of Directors. We have two new members Rhonda Hackenburg and Matt Elders. A warm welcome to both of you. Andrew Ford and Kernoal Stephens chose not to stand for election. They will continue on the Conference Planning Committee.

Last week I had the pleasure meeting many of you at the IIUG Conference in San Diego. For those of you who did not come I hope to meet you next year.

On a short break from the conference duties and sessions some of us went to the San Diego marina to see the Sakman, once the fastest sailing vessel in the world. The Sakman was a traditional sailing canoe of the Chamorro people from the Mariana Islands (Pacific Islands in Micronesia). The last Sakman was seen in the 1742 over 250 years ago. The canoe in the picture is an exact replica carved out of a single log by Chamorro people as part of a project to restore the Chamorro heritage. We were lucky to be shown the Sakman by Pete Perez our Web master, an IIUG award winner and a friend.

The Sakman has nothing to do with Informix but both of them are darn fast.

For more information about the Sakman and the project you can go to:

President's Note:

As many of you know the 2012 IIUG Informix Conference just concluded in beautiful (almost) sunny San Diego, California. Actually, we really never saw rain—the weather was perfect. It was a great event, kicked off Monday by Jerry Keesee, the WorldWide Director of Development for Informix, followed Tuesday with a keynote from the very energetic David Barnes of IBM on BIG DATA, and Wednesday by Martin Wildberger, the Vice President of WorldWide Development for IBM Information Management, who gave his first keynote at the IIUG Conference. Somewhere in between we had a record 100+ sessions, a sold-out hotel, full rooms and even a vendor who gave a trip for two to Paris as a prize!

Congratulations are in order for this year's 2012 IIUG Directors Award winners Scott Lashley of IBM and Dr. Mirta Baranovic of the University of Zagreb (view her wonderful story at http://louistcherian.wordpress.com/2011/11/).

The early reviews are all positive and I personally and publically want to thank the entire IIUG Conference Team of Matt Elders, Sam Gentsch, John Fahey, Andrew Ford, Rhonda Hackenburg, Cindy Lichtenauer, David Link, Bruce Simms and Kernoal Stephens. From IBM: Anita McKeithen and Pradeep Kutty, as well as a whole host of others, including all the speakers and the vendors.

For those who did not attend, the 2012 conference presentations will be available in the IIUG member area on the main page under the "IIUG 2012" button.

Although there are a lot of rumors as to where the 2013 event will be, I can only tell you we have just started to look at places and dates in the last 48 hours, so stay tuned as a whole new web site will debut.

In other news, congratulations to the two new Board members taking office: Matt Elders and Rhonda Hackenburg. And thank you to departing board members Andrew Ford and Kernoal Stephens for your time served. You will be missed.

Stuart

IIUG 2012 in San Diego - Recap

The 2012 IIUG Informix Conference in San Diego was our best conference ever. More tracks (7), more sessions (123) and our usual tutorials, hands-on labs, free certification, keynotes and parties. But the most impressive was the increase in the number of customers. Not just an increase in the number of attendees, which sold out the conference hotel, but real Informix users from all over the world. Don't get me wrong. I love the IBM Informix people but this conference is meant for our Informix customers and partners. That is why it was so good to see so many of you.

The quality of speakers and variety of topics was unmatched. Add to it the opportunity to meet the Informix developers and executives and to mingle with your friend and colleagues. On top of that don't forget the fun and the unique atmosphere.

These and more are the reasons you should all attend our 2013 conference.

So stay tuned!

Gary Ben-Israel

Smart Meter Central Wiki

This wiki focuses on the use of the IBM-Informix TimeSeries to manage data collected from smart meters. As time goes by, more and more information will be added here. Keep in mind that it still may not provide a complete picture of the IBM-Informix TimeSeries capabilities and ecosystem.
